The Secrets of the Night

What do you see in the dark of the night,
In the sparkle of jewels in the sky?
Do you see Lady Night, clothed in diamonds of light
For to catch the unwary man's eye?

Do you see how she twirls in a slow pirouette
To display her best velevet, black dress,
As she taunts all the men, saying she is the best
And then promises beauty to bless?

Or might you, perhaps, see the creatures of old
With the myths and the legends you know --
How they're placed in the sky where they sparkle in gold,
Where the gods have arranged them just so?

Can you tell all the stories of how they arrived
In their permanent place in the sky,
Where, throughout all of time, they have bravely survived,
Where, immortal, forever they fly?

Or do you, at night, see the souls of before
In each twinkle of light you behold?
Have they gone up to heaven, their spirits to soar
To protect us from evils of old?

Or do you see suns in the night's empty space
That burn brightly so far, far away,
So that each can give life in its time and its place
And give light e'en to us all its days?

Or is it the glisten of magic you seek,
When you look to the sky in the eve,
That a fairy has dropped and its magic now leaks
To the souls who will only believe?

Or perhaps it's the veil between Heaven and Earth
That keeps us forever assured,
By the holes in the fabric, that we are, by birth,
Holy heirs to the throne of the Word.

Whatever you see in the night's mystic glow --
Whether magic or science you know --
You can count on its sparkle wherever you go
To guard you, to guide you, below.
