This is M42, the Great Nebula in Orion. When you look at Orion in the sky, you can actually see this nebula naked-eye. Located between Orion's feet and belt are three stars that make up his sword. The middle "star" is actually this nebula. See Colors of a Warrior . Also see Orion's True Colors.
About the Title:
This nebula, M42, is located in the constellationOrion, and is often referred to as "the Great Nebula in Orion". Orion was a great warrior who could kill anything. Anything, that is, except for one scorpion. This scorpion killed him, and both Orion and the Scorpion were placed in the sky, but separated so that they would never be in the sky at the same time. In this image, we enhanced the blue colors, and so this reminded me that Orion's defeat would make him feel "blue."
