About the Title:
A red planet, a white meteor, and a blue star. Stars, and a falling star creating a "stripe" in the sky. The only thing that could have made this picture more patriotic would be if it had occurred on the fourth of July. See also Red, White, and Blue.

I took many pictures of the Mars and Spica pair (see Red, White, and Blue), and during the exposures I was looking at my watch or up and down the street for cars, whose bright headlights could ruin my pictures, and so I did not actually see this meteor. I was quite delighted when I developed the picture, and it seems that I got the entire journey of this brief falling star.
